MODIFYING YOUR DEMANDROIDS GROUP INVITER SIGN(S) |
![]() |
This page contains a few hints and tips on how to get your group inviter signs looking just the
way you want them. More information about the Demandroids group inviter system can be found via
the home page for the system.
Despite the "(no modify)" notation appearing next to the signs in your inventory, you do actually
have permission to modify the prim of each sign (the "no modify" appears next to the inventory items
because the signs contain scripts that you cannot modify). The most common thing that end users are
likely to want to change is the texture that appears on the faces of all the signs. If you have a texture
in your inventory that you would like to use, you can just rez the sign and then drag your texture from
your inventory to each face of the sign where you want the texture to appear. Note that you will need at
least copy permission on the texture to be able to do this. Adding the texture to the prim this way has
the side effect of adding the texture to the sign's contents. Adding a texture to the sign's
contents should not normally do any harm - I just mention it here to make you aware that it happens.
Alternatively, if you are familiar with SL's building tools, you can use the Edit dialog to change the texture(s) on the sign(s) via the "Texture" tab. Doing it this way will avoid adding any textures to the sign's contents.
The folder you got from your pack of signs also contains a copy of the default texture for the signs, just in case you want to put it back at some stage.
The next thing you may want to do is resize and/or rotate the sign. There are various ways to
achieve this, but the easiest is just to rez a sign, right click on it, click Edit, and then manipulate
the sign with your mouse while holding down the Ctrl key to rotate it, or both the Ctrl key and the
Shift key to stretch/shrink it. If you know your way around the Edit dialog, you can change the prim's
size, shape, colour, etc. as you see fit.
If you would like your sign to be a more complex object made up of more than one prim, that's not
a problem - you can simply link the sign to other prim(s). However, if you want the multi-prim sign to
work no matter which prim is touched, you will need to make sure that you link the prim containing the
"Demandroids Group Inviter" script as the root prim (by selecting it last before linking). If you link
the scripted prim as a child prim then people will only get the group invitation if they touch that
particular prim.
If you already have another object that you would like to use as your group inviter, you can drag the "Demandroids Group Inviter" script out of the contents of one of your Demandroids signs into your inventory, and then drag it from your inventory into the contents of the other object. The issues about root prim vs. child prim from the paragraph above apply here as well. Dropping the script into the contents tab when you have a whole linked object selected will put the script into the root prim.
Some of the topics on the Advanced Features page might also
be of interest to those who'd like to change not only the look of their group inviter object, but also
the way it works.
